🚨 RetroWatch™ Eyes & Ears Safety System — FAQ

What is RetroWatch™?

RetroWatch™ is RetroRide’s opt-in safety suite designed to give drivers (RetroRangers™) and riders extra peace of mind. It includes:

  • RetroWatch Ears™ → AI-powered audio detection for danger signals.

  • RetroWatch Lens™ → Optional body cam/dash cam recording for accountability.

Together, they provide community-driven safety while staying rooted in privacy, choice, and transparency.

How does RetroRide™ keep drivers and riders safe?

Safety is at the heart of RetroRide™. Every driver (RetroRanger™) passes a background check, and all riders must verify their identity with a valid payment method. On top of that, we’ve built RetroWatch™ — our Neighborhood Watch on Wheels, combining community connection, optional safety tech, and a 24/7 Safety Team.

What is the 24/7 Safety Team?

A mix of AI monitoring, licensed third-party specialists, and RetroRide™ staff who respond to alerts around the clock. If RetroWatch™ detects danger, they’re instantly notified and can escalate to emergency services.

How do passenger ratings work?

After each ride, drivers rate passengers. This helps maintain accountability and ensures riders are respectful.

How do driver ratings work?

Riders also rate drivers after every trip. High ratings help drivers earn trust badges and more rider bookings.

Can I contact 911 through the app?

Yes. With one tap, you can connect to 911 and automatically share your live trip details.

What should I do if I feel unsafe during a ride?

  • Tap the Emergency Button to trigger RetroWatch™ Mode.

  • Your trip is instantly locked, your route logged, and optional Eyes & Ears safety features (audio/video) are activated.

  • Our 24/7 Safety Team gets an alert immediately.

How do I reach support if I have an issue?

You can contact RetroRide™ Support directly through the app for help with rides, accounts, or safety concerns.

What safety features are built into the app?

  • RetroWatch™ Eyes & Ears → optional audio + video monitoring for incidents.

  • Emergency Button → direct 911 connection.

  • Ride Sharing → let friends or family follow your trip in real time.

  • Community Mode → connect with RetroRiders™ in your city for extra peace of mind.

Do I have to use RetroWatch™ Lens or Ears?

No. Both are 100% optional. Drivers can enable them per ride, and riders can choose whether to book with a RetroWatch™-enabled driver.

What is RetroWatch™ Eyes & Sounds?

RetroWatch™ Eyes & Ears is RetroRide’s opt-in safety program combining two tools:

  • RetroWatch™ Sound → AI-powered audio detection for danger signals.

  • RetroWatch™ Lens → optional body cam/dash cam recording for accountability.

Together, they give RetroRangers™ (drivers) and riders an extra layer of security, while staying rooted in privacy, choice, and community.

What is RetroWatch Sound™?

RetroWatch Sound is an AI audio safety system that listens for over 120 danger cues, like glass breaking, aggressive shouting, and distress sounds. When a threat is detected, Guardian Mode auto-triggers, alerts go out, and recording starts.

What exactly does it detect?
Patterns linked to risk, including screams, glass breaks, physical altercations, violent arguments, and panic phrases. It ignores background chatter, music, and normal conversation.

Is it always recording?
No. The system listens for patterns only. Normal conversations are not stored. Recording activates only when a threat pattern is detected or when the rider or driver manually triggers Guardian Mode.

Who gets alerted when a threat is detected?
Your trusted contacts through Community Sentinel, the RetroRide safety team, and Noonlight if enabled. Alerts include live location, vehicle info, and the option to contact emergency services.

What gets recorded? Audio, video, or both?
By default, short audio clips around the detected event. If Guardian Lens is enabled, video can also start. These settings can be adjusted in the safety controls.

How long are recordings kept?
Only as long as needed for safety reviews and lawful requests. Non-incident audio is not stored. Confirmed incident files follow a strict retention timeline and access controls.

Can I opt out?
Yes. You can disable RetroWatch Sound in Safety Controls. You can also use Quiet Mode to minimize data collection during a trip.

How do riders and drivers know it is active?
A clear in-app indicator shows status. Vehicles with Guardian features display privacy decals that explain the system at a glance.

What about two-party consent states?
RetroWatch Sound uses a consent flow that meets state requirements. When consent is needed, the app displays a notice before activation and offers alternatives, including ride cancellation without penalty.

Does it work offline?
Yes. Detection runs on-device first. If connectivity is poor, alerts queue and send as soon as a signal returns.

How accurate is it?
The model is tuned to reduce false alarms while prioritizing safety. You can mark an event as false or real with one tap. This feedback improves future accuracy.

Can I review or delete a recording tied to my trip?
Yes. You can request a copy or deletion of incident files, subject to legal holds. The app includes a simple request flow inside Trip History.

Who can access incident files?
Only authorized safety staff under audit logs. Files are encrypted in transit and at rest.

What if RetroWatch Sound triggers by mistake?
Tap Cancel in the alert banner within 10 seconds. You can also flag the event as a false alarm in Trip History so the model learns.

How does RetroWatch Sound work with other safety tools?
It pairs with Guardian Mode, Community Sentinel, Noonlight, Follow My Ride, the 4 digit PIN, and RangerMatch. Together they form the Guardian Network.

Is RetroWatch Sound required to use RetroRide?
No. It is optional. Riders and drivers can choose the level of safety features they prefer.

How do I report misuse or a concern?
Open the Safety Center in the app and select Report an issue. A hotline is also available during operating hours.

Where can I change my privacy settings?
Go to Account, then Safety and Privacy. You can manage RetroWatch Sound, Guardian Lens, consent notices, trusted contacts, and data requests from there.

What is RetroWatch™ Lens?

RetroWatch Lens™ is our optional body cam/dash cam feature for drivers.

  • Works with a driver’s smartphone or a clip-on device.

  • Footage only uploads if:
✅ An SOS button is pressed
    ✅ AI detects danger
✅ A rider reports an incident

  • All footage auto-deletes after 48 hours unless flagged for review.

  • Riders see a “This Ranger uses RetroWatch Lens ✅” badge before booking.

Is RetroWatch™ always recording?

No. RetroWatch™ is event-triggered, not constant.

  • Audio/video only activate when safety events are detected or triggered.

  • A visible LED/red dot shows when Guardian Lens is actively recording.

Do I have to use a body cam or dash cam?

No. Both RetroWatch Ears™ and RetroWatch Lens™ are 100% optional.

  • Drivers choose per ride/session.

  • Riders can choose whether they want a RetroWatch-enabled driver (in states that require consent).

How does privacy work with RetroWatch™ Eyes & Ears?

  • Consent required: Riders are notified if a Ranger is using RetroLens and must agree before the trip begins (in two-party consent states).

  • Auto-delete: Footage is erased after 48 hours unless flagged for safety review.

  • No ads/training: Footage/audio is never used for advertising or AI training.

  • Indicators: A red light shows when Guardian Lens is active.

Who monitors RetroWatch™

RetroWatch™ is monitored by three dedicated layers:

1️⃣ AI Technology — Continuously scans for danger signals (screams, crashes, route deviations). AI only processes data during active rides and never stores audio/video unless flagged.

2️⃣ Licensed Safety Experts (Noonlight™) — A 24/7 professional monitoring partner that verifies alerts and can dispatch emergency services.

3️⃣ RetroRide™ Care Team — Provides post-incident support, including insurance help, counseling referrals, and fixing in-app issues.

🔒 Privacy First: Human review only happens if AI detects a risk or you request help. Routine rides are never monitored.

❓ What happens if RetroWatch™ detects danger?

  • When RetroWatch™ picks up a threat, it triggers RetroWatch Guardian Circle™ — your safety net in motion:

1️⃣ RetroWatch Mode activates: Route, video, and audio are locked and securely uploaded.
2️⃣ Instant alerts: Rider and driver can trigger 911 directly through the app.
3️⃣ Outside monitoring: Licensed safety partner (Noonlight™) and RetroRide™ Care Team are notified immediately.

👉 The RetroWatch Circle™ = AI + Emergency Experts + RetroRide™ Staff → working together in real time.

Does RetroWatch™ cost extra?

  • Free for riders.

  • Optional hardware upgrades for drivers (HD, night vision cams) may have a small monthly fee.

Do drivers earn more for using RetroWatch Lens™?

Yes. Drivers who enable RetroWatch Lens™ may receive bonus pay per ride and trust badges that can increase bookings.

Can I turn RetroWatch™ on/off?

Yes. Both RetroWatch Ears™ and Lens™ are toggle-based. Drivers control them per ride, and riders see upfront if the feature is enabled.

Driving Policies

What are the requirements to drive with RetroRide™?

Drivers must meet the minimum age requirement in their city, hold a valid driver’s license, have at least one year of driving experience, pass a background check, and provide required documents (like proof of insurance and registration). You’ll also need an eligible vehicle that passes inspection.

How long does the application process take?

Submitting your application usually takes 10–15 minutes. A background check typically takes 1–7 days, depending on your state. If you’re driving your own car, it must pass a RetroRide™ inspection before you can start. Once approved, you’re ready to hit the road as a RetroRanger™ (Driver).

Can I drive in multiple cities or states?

Yes — as long as RetroRide™ operates in that area and your driver account is active, you can drive in other cities or states. Local rules and requirements may vary, so always check the app for eligibility before heading out.

What is RetroHer™ Connect and how does it work?

RetroHer™ Connect is an optional safety feature that gives women and nonbinary drivers the ability to prioritize matches with women and nonbinary riders. It can be turned on or off anytime in the driver preferences within the app. While it increases the likelihood of same-gender matches, it is not a guarantee.

Can I decline a ride request?

Yes. You’re free to decline rides that don’t work for you. However, repeatedly declining requests may impact your acceptance rate and limit bonuses or promotions. We recommend only logging in when you’re ready to drive.

What happens if a passenger cancels?

If a passenger cancels after a certain amount of time has passed, you may be eligible for a cancellation fee. Details and timing vary by city, and you’ll see the policy outlined in your app.

Are there rules about where I can pick up or drop off?

Yes. Drivers must follow local traffic laws and regulations, including designated pickup zones, airport policies, and no-stopping areas. The app will guide you to legal pickup and drop-off points whenever possible.

Can I drive with RetroRide™ part-time or full-time?

Absolutely. With RetroRide™, you set your own schedule. Many RetroRangers™ drive part-time for extra income, while others make it a full-time career. You’re in control of when and how often you drive.

Taxes & Records FAQ

How do taxes work with RetroRide™? Do you withhold anything?

RetroRide™ drivers are considered independent contractors, not employees. That means RetroRide™ does not withhold taxes from your earnings. You’re responsible for reporting your income and paying federal, state, and local taxes.

Will I receive a tax form (1099)?

Yes. If you earn more than the IRS reporting threshold in a year, RetroRide™ will issue a Form 1099. You’ll also have access to a year-end tax summary in the app that shows your total earnings.

Does RetroRide™ provide a year-end earnings summary?

Yes. All drivers receive an annual earnings summary in the RetroRide™ Driver app, which includes ride fares, tips, and bonuses. This helps you keep track of your income for tax filing.

Do I need to track my mileage?

Yes — mileage tracking is essential. While RetroRide™ records trip distances, you may also want to track personal mileage related to driving (like driving to a passenger pickup or getting your car serviced). Many drivers use mileage-tracking apps or a written log.

Can I deduct vehicle expenses like gas and maintenance?

Yes. As an independent contractor, you may be eligible to deduct business-related expenses such as gas, maintenance, car washes, phone bills, and even a portion of your insurance. Check IRS guidelines or consult a tax professional to maximize deductions legally.

Where can I download my earnings history?

You can download your full earnings history directly from the RetroRide™ Driver app. Your account dashboard lets you view daily, weekly, and yearly breakdowns, which you can export for your records or share with your tax preparer.

Once you’re matched with a rider, RetroRide’s insurance adds an extra layer of protection for liability and accidents during the trip.

Driver FAQ

When are bonuses available?

Bonuses usually pop up during the busiest times and places — think weekday commutes, weekend nights, or right after a big event. They’re designed to match high demand, so there are plenty of RetroRangers™ on the road when RetroRiders™ need a lift most.

Why do bonuses change?

Bonuses shift depending on demand and driver availability.

  • They’re usually offered during busy times and places — which can change week to week.

  • Bonuses help balance the number of drivers on the road with how many riders need trips.

  • If demand spikes or fewer drivers are available, bonus offers adjust to keep rides moving.

  • Not every bonus is available to every driver — they’re tailored based on need and timing.

Ways to Get Paid with RetroRide™

Why do my earnings change?

Your earnings can shift from day to day based on a few key factors:

  • How many RetroRiders™ are requesting trips

  • The time and distance of each ride

  • Available bonuses and promotions

The RetroRide™ Driver app gives you tools to stay ahead — like the weekly planner that highlights the best times and places to drive, plus scheduled rides so you can lock in trips that match your schedule.

When are the busiest times to drive?

The busiest times are usually weekday commutes (mornings and evenings), weekend nights, and right after big events like concerts or games. These are the moments when ride requests spike — and when RetroRangers™ have the best chance to maximize earnings.

How does the 75% earnings commitment work?

Where Rider Payments Go
Rider payments cover more than just your earnings and RetroRide’s share — they also go toward essentials like commercial insurance and taxes.

With our Earnings Commitment, you’ll always keep at least 75% of rider payments after external fees every week — guaranteed. If your weekly share ever falls below that, RetroRide™ makes up the difference.

Track your progress anytime in your weekly earnings breakdown, updated as soon as you complete your first ride of the week.

Insurance Requirements

All RetroRangers™ are required to carry personal auto insurance that meets your state’s minimum requirements. However, most personal policies don’t apply while you’re driving on the RetroRide™ platform.
