Covered on Every Ride

At RetroRide™, your safety comes first — on every trip, every time. That’s why we carry industry-standard insurance protection to cover both riders and drivers while on the platform.

  • Driver Coverage: All RetroRangers™ are required to maintain personal auto insurance that meets or exceeds local regulations.

  • On-Trip Protection: Once a ride is accepted through the app, RetroRide’s insurance provides additional coverage, offering peace of mind for both rider and driver.

  • Community Care: Beyond policies and paperwork, our real goal is ensuring you always feel secure, supported, and valued on your journey.

RetroRide isn’t just about getting from point A to B — it’s about knowing you’re protected along the way.

Questions? We’ve got answers.

Do I need my own insurance to drive with RetroRide™?

Yes. All drivers must maintain personal auto insurance as required by their state.

What coverage does RetroRide provide?

Once you’re matched with a rider, RetroRide’s insurance adds an extra layer of protection for liability and accidents during the trip.

Am I covered if I’m waiting for a ride request?

While you’re logged into the app but not yet on a trip, your personal insurance is the primary coverage. RetroRide’s protection begins the moment you accept a ride.

Does insurance cover medical emergencies?

In the rare event of an accident, RetroRide’s insurance provides additional coverage for eligible claims while the trip is active.

What about food delivery with RetroEats™?

RetroEats™ drivers are also covered under RetroRide’s on-trip protection policy when actively delivering an order.

What is third-party auto liability insurance?

This insurance provides coverage for drivers against liabilities involving bodily injury or property damage to others in a covered accident. If you already maintain commercial insurance (or a personal policy that includes ridesharing coverage), RetroRide’s policy will apply on an excess basis to your existing coverage.

What is UM, UIM, MedPay, PIP, and Occupational Accident Coverage?

Where applicable, RetroRide™ may provide the following additional coverages:

  • Uninsured Motorist (UM) & Underinsured Motorist (UIM): If you or your riders are injured in a covered accident caused by another driver who is uninsured or underinsured, UM/UIM coverage may apply. This coverage has no deductible.

  • Medical Payments (MedPay): Helps cover healthcare or medical expenses if you are injured in a covered accident.

  • Personal Injury Protection (PIP): Provides coverage for medical expenses and/or lost wages if you are injured in a covered accident.

  • Occupational Accident Coverage: Available in select states*, this provides medical expense and disability benefits if you are injured in a covered accident.

Note: MedPay, PIP, and Occupational Accident coverage also have no deductible.

* Select states include:

  • California (accidents on or after Dec 16, 2020)

  • Massachusetts (accidents on or after Oct 1, 2024)

  • Minnesota (accidents on or after Jan 1, 2025)

What is Contingent Comprehensive & Collision Coverage?

This coverage helps protect your vehicle if it is damaged in a covered accident. It applies only if you already maintain personal comprehensive and collision coverage on your own auto policy.

  • Covers repairs or replacement of your car up to its actual cash value

  • Subject to a $2,500 deductible

  • Applies whether or not you are at fault

This protection is designed to fill the gap so you’re not left uncovered when driving with RetroRide™.

How often do I need to update my insurance?

Most personal auto insurance policies renew every 6 to 12 months. RetroRide™ requires that you keep your current insurance on file and that it always meets your state’s minimum requirements.

To help you stay eligible to drive, RetroRide™ will notify you 15 days before your policy expires so you can upload updated documentation.

If you’re considering switching carriers, you’ll soon be able to access partnered insurance quotes through RetroRide™, giving you options that may provide better coverage or help you save money.

What if I use Express Drive?

Drivers are required to maintain personal auto insurance that meets minimum state requirements, however, most personal auto policies will not cover you while you’re using the RetroRide™ app. Where consistent with state and local laws, RetroRide™ maintains commercial insurance on behalf of drivers. This commercial insurance provides certain coverages while you’re using the RetroRide™ app, which are outlined above. This does not replace your personal insurance.

Additional insurance beyond your personal insurance policy is not required,* However supplemental personal auto coverage may be available to provide more protection to you when your app is on and you are waiting for a ride request.
